China is a land of beautiful women and varied dress styles of both indigenous and foreign origin. The ch'i páo (show on this page) has been considered traditionally Chinese in recent times, although it was borrowed from barbarians. The length has tended to be long. Side slits may be long or short, depending on the occasion and the status and age of the wearer.

Dresses on fourth page are those of aborigine maidens of Taiwan's mountain country for both casual and dancing wear. At times in Chinese history, men have worn the gowns and women the pants. In Taiwan today, pant-suits are familiar but the street pajamas of Southeast Asia are not seen. Many modern styles come from Hollywood and Paris but others have Chinese Modifications. Taiwan's readymade dress business has grown rapidly along with the textile industry.
